How chiropractic care can help with back pain.

Chiropractic care primarily involves a maneuver commonly referred to as a chiropractic adjustment. The adjustment is performed using hands, and its objective is to restore optimal function to the adjusted spinal joints. By enhancing mechanical function and addressing the movement of vertebrae that may be restricted or impinging on a nerve, for example, the body's ability to withstand mechanical shocks and other stresses is increased. When the function of the lower back vertebrae is diminished and is restored by manually and naturally correcting the identified dysfunction, it is normal for function to improve. When this reduction in function is identified as the chiropractic cause of conditions such as lower back pain, sciatica, somato-visceral disorder, or others, then the adjustment or correction of this dysfunction can logically lead to an improvement in health and well-being. From the above, we infer that the primary objective of a chiropractic adjustment is not pain relief. Instead, it is the correction of the mechanical problem at the root of the pain. Only when function is improved will the body's symptoms or warning signals have no reason to persist.
